The rest of the brunch passed in a blur, with everyone engaged in lively conversation. Mahir didn't speak much, which I found both intriguing and frustrating. I couldn't help but notice the way he occasionally glanced at me, though his gaze was fleeting and always seemed distant. It left me wondering what was going on in his head. Why was he so reserved? Was he always like this, or was I somehow.... Different?
I tried to focus on the others around me Ruhi, aayansh and my brothers. They were fun to talk to, and soon we were all laughing again, telling silly stories from our childhoods. But no matter how much I tried to push it away, my mind kept drifting back to him.
Mahir.
It was impossible to ignore the electricity in the air every time our eyes met, even if it was only for a split second. I wasn't sure if it was something in his gaze or just my imagination running wild, but something was pulling me towards him.
After brunch, everyone moved to the living room. Some of the adults continued chatting while the younger crowd headed outside to the garden. The weather was perfectly bright and sunny, with a light breeze blowing through the trees. The garden here was magnificent too, and I had to admit, I was starting to fall in love with this place.
I walked with Ruhi and Aayansh, chatting as we went, while my brothers lagged behind. I noticed that Mahir, too, had stepped outside, but he kept his distance from the rest of us. It was almost as if he was avoiding us....or maybe just avoiding me.
I glanced over my shoulder, and sure enough, he was standing at the far end of the garden, his back to us, looking out at the distant horizon. His posture was straight, his hands tucked into his pockets, and the way he stood there... it made him look so aloof, so unapproachable. It frustrated me.
Why are you being like this? I thought, my heart was pounding a little faster.
I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Mahir than met the eye. Beneath that cold, brooding exterior, there had to be something more.
"Do you think he's always like this?" I asked, turning to Ruhi, who was walking beside me.
She glanced at Mahir and shrugged. "Honestly? Yeah, he can be a bit of a loner. But don't worry. He's a good guy once you get to know him."
Her words were comforting, but something in her tone made me wonder if she was just trying to ease my nerves.
I didn't get a chance to ask more, as the others gathered around the outdoor seating area, and Ruhi and Aayansh pulled me towards them. We all sat down, and as the conversation flowed, my attention kept wandering to the spot where Mahir had been standing.
It wasn't long before Mahir walked over to join us, though he made no effort to engage in conversation. He simply sat down across from me his piercing eyes scanning the group briefly before settling on the table in front of him.
The others didn't seem to mind his silence, but I couldn't help but feel that he was a puzzle I had to solve. There was something about the way he looked at the world, like he was carrying the weight of something that no one else could understand.
We spent the next few hours casually chatting, but as the sun began to dip lower in the sky, I noticed a subtle change in Mahir's demeanor. He seemed more... present. His gaze was no longer distant, and when I caught him looking at me again, this time, his eyes softened just a little before he quickly looked away.
I was starting to think that maybe, just maybe, there was more to him than I first thought.
MAHIR'S POV
I could feel her eyes on me, even when I wasn't looking. It wasn't a stare, but more like a pull, a quiet, unspoken force that drew me towards her without any effort.
I tried not to notice, but it was impossible.
Sanvi. I hadn't expected her to be so... captivating. When I first saw her, I thought she'd be just another bubbly person in the crowd. But there was something in the way she moved, the way she laughed, that caught my attention in a way that was both unsettling and intriguing.
I'd heard stories about her, of course. She was Raghuveer's uncle and Swara's aunty daughter, the one they spoke of with warmth and affection. I had seen her name mentioned a few times, but this was the first time I was actually seeing her in person.
And today, she was different. There was something about her that made her stand out. It wasn't just the way she looked, though she was undeniably beautiful. It was her presence, her energy. She had a light around her that made it impossible not to watch.
She was sitting with Ruhi, her laughter filling the space. Her joy was infectious, her energy almost tangible. I caught myself glancing at her again. She had a way of speaking that made everything else feel less important.
When she smiled, it was like the whole room lit up, and I found myself thinking, why does she make me feel this way?
It was unlike me to get distracted, but there was something about her that kept drawing me in, as if she was a magnet pulling at the core of me. I shook my head, trying to focus, but the thoughts of her kept intruding.
She had an aura that commanded attention, without even trying.
I tried to push the thoughts away, but it was impossible. I shouldn't be thinking like this, I told myself. I can't afford distractions. Not now.
I stood up abruptly, feeling suffocated by the intensity of my thoughts. I needed space, distance. The garden seemed like the perfect place to clear my head.
The cool breeze hit my face as I walked away from the group, hoping the open air would calm the storm in my chest.
But even as I stood there, watching the sky change colors as the sun began to set, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to change. And it had everything to do with her.

"Some people walk into your life like a whisper, so quiet that you almost don't hear them coming. But once they're there, their presence becomes impossible to ignore. Sanvi didn't know it yet, but Mahir was about to become that quiet chaos in her perfectly ordered world."
